Natural Ways To Boost Fertility in 2021
I went on a long infertility journey before I conceived my three children, so I know what it’s like to struggle month after month with getting pregnant! Along my own journey, I tried everything I could find on Google. But you shouldn’t have to Google your way towards fertility! There are better ways to spend your energy as you’re trying to conceive your child.
If you’re afraid that boosting your fertility just involves intense rounds of IVF and intimidating doctor’s visits, it doesn’t always have to be that way. It may be the case sometimes, but there are so many natural ways to boost your fertility so you can increase your chances of getting pregnant in 2020.
Read on for 10 natural fertility tips to guide you along this journey, too!
Keep your body warm.
As odd as it sounds, keeping your body temperature warm boosts your fertility and creates an optimal environment for your body to get pregnant. During the luteal phase between ovulation and menstruation, your body is the warmest it will be all month. That’s because the body is stimulating ovulation and preparing for possible implantation. But unfortunately, if circulation in your womb isn’t strong, it may be even more difficult to conceive. If you have cold hands or feet, a cold-to-the-touch abdomen or lower back, poor digestion, or even spotting between periods, you may not have a warm enough uterus.
A simple way to boost your fertility (besides having a solid fertility diet), is to eat warm foods like soups, drink herbal tea, wear socks around the house, and even get moving with exercise so you can boost your circulation. If you want to speed things along, you can also take castor oil to boost blood flow to your womb. Be cautious with this one: there’s a right way and a wrong way to apply this oil to your lower abs. Avoid applying during your period and ask your doctor if you’re in the phases of IVF.
Make a habit of getting exercise every day.
Studies show us that exercise can decrease miscarriages and reduce the risk of ovulation problems. It’s also shown to reduce stress and anxiety, which are inevitable during the fertility journey but much easier to manage when you incorporate exercises and mindset activities into your daily routine.
Keep in mind that when it comes to fertility, it’s all about creating balance. Overexercise can work against fertility efforts, so try to keep it light with moderate exercises like walking, yoga, pilates, or swimming while you’re trying to conceive. Yoga specifically has been shown to be a great supplement to IVF since it lowers stress levels and increases chances of a successful procedure. Even just 30 minutes a day of exercise is a great way to boost your overall health and wellness.
Make intimacy a priority.
On your fertility journey, it’s an unfortunate reality that your sex life can start to feel more scheduled than spontaneous. Before long, you’re more focused on having intercourse during your fertile window than being in the moment.
During your fertile window, it’s recommended that you have sex 3 times a week to increase your chances. It’s hard not to feel like it takes the romance out of it. But no matter what, stay connected and check in with your spouse. Make the time to have intercourse you both enjoy so you get quality time together even as you’re trying to conceive. Plus, regular sex all month long has been shown to boost your likelihood of conceiving.
Create a habit that keeps you present every day.
Even though a healthy diet and exercise is a big puzzle piece to boosting your fertility, your mindset can make all the difference. Stay present in your joy even through the struggle with meditations, breathing exercises, yoga, and even journaling to avoid a downward spiral into negative emotions.
Circle & Bloom have some amazing nightly meditations specifically tailored to your IVF protocol. I listened to these during my own fertility journey and found them to be a great help. YouTube also has some great fertility meditations that helped me get into a more present and positive mindset. Yoga poses like legs up the wall and child’s pose were a great way to stretch and relax as I listened to my daily meditations.
Connect with others who understand your infertility journey.
Whether it’s online or in-person, make it a priority to connect with women on the same journey as you are. Even though you may have your friends (and struggle to see them getting pregnant and having their children), there are so many women on the same journey as you. You’re not alone. Join a community of women who understand and empathize so you can feel supported along your journey.
You can also work with a fertility coach. I work with women just like you struggling on their fertility journey. Since I’ve been there, I know what you’re going through and what to recommend as you’re dealing with infertility.
Limit screen time.
Even though Googling is pretty much unavoidable when we have our phones by our sides 24/7, limit your screen time as much as possible to avoid burnout, stress, and misinformation. Although there are TONS of great resources out there, take a break and reconnect with yourself to avoid getting overwhelmed by all the information available to you. Be careful what you read, and set boundaries so you can keep your sanity and peace.
The health benefits associated with quality sleep are paramount to your fertility. If you don’t get enough sleep, this could affect your body’s ability to trigger ovulation, thus making it nearly impossible to get pregnant. At bedtime, wind down with soothing meditations, herbal tea, and quiet time away from any screens. Do what you can to make sure you get quality sleep. Most people need 8 hours of sleep, so keep it a priority to get to bed on time so you can boost your fertility tomorrow.
